Manhattan allows each user to maintain a simple "personal info" page that can include:
An email address.
A website address.
Up to 8 additional user-defined fields for listing things like phone numbers, office hours, academic majors, etc.
A photograph.
A free-form narrative.
The information is available only within the confines of the Manhattan environment. That is, the web pages are NOT publicly available on the web, and cannot be accessed by "search engines." In particular, a person's personal info can be seen by:
The server administrator.
Any of that person's teachers.
Any student in that person's classes, where the teacher has enabled the "People" module.
The People Module is described in detail later in this manual. Here we'll cover the basics of setting up a personal info page.

The View/Edit Personal Info button appears at the bottom of the "My Manhattan" page you see when you first login. When you click on that button a separate window will pop-up showing your current page. At first, that page will be empty:

Click on the Edit button to get to the form:

The above form, which has been filled out with some sample entries, has three sections:
The topmost part of the form allows users to upload or delete a photograph. To upload a new photograph, be sure to click the "Replace photo with this one:" radio button, and then click the Browse button to select an image file from your computer's disk drive.
The photo must be in JPEG format. JPEG files usually have names that end in .jpg, .jpeg or sometimes .jpe. Most digital cameras support this format directly.
It is not necessary to resize the photo before uploading it to Manhattan. Manhattan will automatically resize the image to a "thumbnail" sized image. For best results, the photo should be a relative close-up of your face.
The second part of the form is a table with two columns, labeled "Label" and "Content". There are two pre-defined data fields, "Email" and "Website", both of which can be left blank. The remaining 8 rows of the table can be used to list other facts about yourself that you would like to share with others. In the above screenshot, these user-defined fields are used to list an Office location, Phone number, and Office Hours.
The rectangular text area can (optionally) be used to enter a short (or long) description about yourself. As shown in the screenshot below, the first character in a new paragraph is "stylized" to add some interest to the text.
When you are done editing your personal info, click the Submit Changes button to see what your personal info page will look like to others:

When you're done admiring your handiwork, click the Close this window button in the upper left corner of the window. The intent of all this is to make the virtual classroom a more people-friendly place. As you'll learn in The People Module the pages are always viewable by teachers of the classroom, under several options of the Configuration menu. However, when a teacher chooses to enable Manhattan's "People" module, students in a classroom can see each others pages, and messages they write throughout Manhattan are linked back to their personal info pages.
